What to do in Summer

Summer is a happy time generally but for us, especially those of us that don’t return to our countries, it may be stressful because…

Since most of us are moved to a KYK dorm and food isn’t free as it used to be in our previous dorms, we now have to pay for food. In the dorm I Currently stay at, it costs over 20 lira to eat a standard meal (I mean rice, chicken, and some toppings). Since we are used to catering for lunch only for the past 8 or 9 months it becomes difficult to adapt to catering for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So what can you do in summer to earn more money? Cos that is the only solution if you don’t fast 🙂

TEACH ENGLISH

Not just English actually, any language except Turkish 🤣. A lot of Turks, be they old or young, want to improve their English so they are usually in search of an English-speaking person to help them practice for 1 or 2 hours daily or weekly. Parents send their children to English summer schools, you could also register in such schools or camps to teach English part-time. And if you have the necessary documents to teach English, you could actually teach In a school. Some of you have classmates from other countries, you can also charge them a discounted fee and help them improve their English or any other language. That extra lira could help a lot.

Be a Tourist Guide

In summer, thousands of people visit Turkey for tourism. If you are the active type who knows the best Touristic site, simply find an agency you can work with or offer personal services to students or couples. By creating a simple one-page website, you can get people to contact you. Or by creating the necessary platforms, you could easily get customers. Don’t forget to ask friends, especially those that have been here before you. They’d be ready to help.

Apply for jobs on LINKEDIN

Don’t underrate the benefits of working remotely. You can teach, edit videos, write, manage, or do analysis for any company. Find out your strengths, create an eye-catching CV, and start applying for jobs. You’d be surprised at the number of opportunities available on that platform.

Be a Volunteer

I know volunteerism isn’t a way to make money but it is a nice way to meet new people that could introduce you to great opportunities. Gençlik ve Spor bakanlığı organizes a number of volunteer programs that international students can participate in. Within a week or 2, you may have met enough people who could change your lives.

Develop Yourself

This one won’t pay you immediately but will do in the long run. Enroll for online courses on platforms like Udemy and Coursera, or use apps like Simplilearn to improve your skills and get worthy certificates. Google’s digital marketing course is a very good one to start with and you can even get a job with it. If you are not social sciences and all, take courses like strategic planning, or humanitarianism. Those who code can do Python or Cisco network courses. Learn SQL or take project management courses too. Learn a new language or polish the ones you already know. In one way or the other, they’d help.
